Karen Koffler, M.D. works with patients on a consultative and longitudinal basis to provide Integrative Care. She is one of a small group of physicians in the country certified in Functional Medicine, boarded in Integrative Medicine by the American Board of Integrative Medicine and on the teaching staff of the Institute for Functional Medicine.
In her personal life, she lives what she teaches. A typical day includes early morning meditation, getting caught up on new medical information, getting her kids off to school and then biking to work. She and her husband are grateful to live in a tropical climate and surfs, paddleboard, or sail on their days off.
She received her medical degree at the University of Miami and did her training in Internal Medicine in Chicago and the University of Colorado. She was accepted into the first class of physicians trained by Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona, considered by many to be the father of Integrative Medicine. She was recruited to Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Chicago to design and run an Integrative Medical Clinic. In 2006, she joined Canyon Ranch to spearhead their new Health and Wellness Department at Canyon Ranch Miami Beach. As the director, she saw how effective lifestyle changes were in addressing common diseases and creating well-being and how a multi-disciplinary approach can optimize an individual’s health.
