Pregnancy Weight Shields Your Baby From Environmental Toxins

Happy pregnant women sitting in yoga class touching their bumps in a fitness studioI have been asked many times over the years from pregnant women, "Can I detox now, is there anything I can do or take to protect my baby from environmental toxins?"

My answer is to focus on stabilization so the toxins do not mobilize in the bloodstream. We stabilize with nutrients, minerals and low dose anti-oxidants.

A recent discovery to protect your baby during pregnancy is weight gain. Unlike the controversial medical vogue of the 80's of only gaining 12-18 pounds it is recommended to gain between 25-30 pounds during gestation and gaining more weight during pregnancy can reduce a baby’s exposure to pesticides that have accumulated in mommy's body. If you don't gain enough weight during pregnancy then your body releases fat-soluble chemicals like DDT, flame retardants, methyl mercury and PCB's into the bloodstream. Stabilizing persistent organic pollutants, or POPs, in mom's fat tissue protects the developing baby from potential developmental disorders, learning delays, impaired immune function and hormonal imbalances.

Researchers found for the average woman who gained 31 pounds during pregnancy there was a 22 percent decrease in toxic chemicals. Weight gain definitely keeps certain chemicals in fat stores and away from baby.  Inadequate body fat combined with rapid fetal development in the last trimester can mobilize the release of harmful chemicals to the bloodstream where they can cross the placenta barrier.

If you are currently pregnant come in for an environmental stabilization pregnancy program or wait to do a post labor and delivery detox.

Plant Enzymes Digestive formula taken with meals eases digestive discomfort before it begins. Did you do a gut check today? If you're not up to par you need to take DFH's Probiotic Supreme for full microbiome coverage. Need repair? Add in L-Glutamine or G.I. Revive.

Second Nature patients take DFH's Prenatal Pro Essential Packets. We recommend a shake with PaleoMeal DF Vanilla or Berry, PaleoGreens, PaleoReds,PaleoFiber and a scoop each of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine for brain development. It always pays to take 5-MTHFR everyday to protect against methylation differences.
