Today’s V-log is all about what fasting is and why it is actually good for you. But before I talk about fasting, I want to remind you of the fact that …

I’m a big advocate of whole foods, low carb diets. I have explained in many blog posts and videos why first and foremost it has to be whole foods and then why once you eat real whole foods, (not processed, not loaded with pesticides, petroleum-based flavorings and preservatives), going low carb is the next best approach for you if you struggle with insulin resistance (1) and inflammatory driven conditions such as:

  • Type 2 diabetes
    Obesity and abdominal obesity
    Heart disease
    Alzheimer’s disease
    Stroke
    High cholesterol
    High blood pressure
    Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
    Polycystic ovarian syndrome
    Gout
    Atheroschlerosis
    Gastroesophagial reflux disease
    Obstructive sleep apnea
    Cancer

I came up with the best analogy I could ever come up with to describe what fasting is to whole foods eating.

“Eating Whole Foods” is like discovering your favorite artist. It takes some time and practice to really know what music you like and then to find the perfect radio station that plays that exact music, if possible, free of advertising.

Eating a whole foods diet is like finding the radio station that plays only your fav artist.

Once you find it, you are all excited, you listen to it all the time, then you want more. You want to be able to get the best reception ever.

Finally you find it, it’s low carbing, (aka eating a whole foods low carbohydrate diet).

Following the whole foods low carb diet that allows you to enter nutritional ketosis  (also known by FAT BURNING MODE) is like fine-tuning that radio dial to get the best reception ever.

Now you have your favorite artist’s station on favorites (that’s eating whole foods), you know how to get the best reception ever (that’s eating the low carb ketone inducing diet), but you want more. You want to listen to their best hits all the time.

Fasting is like listening to their best hits, all the time, advertising free or better yet going to see them live in a concert.

Fasting in a shorter time will provide you with all the benefits of following a WFLCNKP, (Whole Foods Low Carb Nutritional Ketosis Protocol) while freeing up a lot of your time and saving you some $$ too.”

My view on fasting:

  • #1 fasting is Fast2Heal. You really get the healing going on pretty fast when you fast. It’s such an incredible RE-set for the whole body systems.
  • #2 fasting is the CEO’s-diet. You know how busy CEOs are. Every second counts, “time is money” and they want all the energy they can possibly get.

Well, I’m the CEO of my life. Every second counts and if I could hook myself up to the energy faucet, you bet I would.

Let’s say I actually did for the past 5 years and I’m hooked.

I mean who doesn’t want to have more time, do less shopping, food prepping, cooking and dish washing and have more energy all at the same time?

Now that’s the power of Fasting (after fast2heal).

OK, now you think that’s not only crazy, but also not scientific.

I practice science based nutrition and fasting and intermittent fasting are based on science (as well as found in human history since humans have been walking on planet Earth). If you don’t believe me you may want to check the work of Dr. Mark Mattson.

Caution, this may shock you!

You don’t need to eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. No you don’t.

If your goal is to:

  • lose weight,
    burn fat/gain muscles,
    control your blood sugar,
    have more energy,

You don’t need to eat more often!

Do not worry! You will not slow down your metabolism, nor starve your body.

In fact I tell you, breakfast is meant to break the fast and that can be at any time of the day. It can be at 12 noon or at 6 pm, if that’s what you choose to do and it gets you the results you are looking for.

Give yourself permission to think and act differently, so you can get the results you are looking for.
