Can Stem Cells Slow Aging and Fix Pain? - Dr. Mark Hyman

Can Stem Cells Slow Aging and Fix Pain?

I don’t just want to live a long life, I want to feel good while I’m doing it.

That’s why I’m always interested in the latest therapies to slow the aging process. Stem cells are one of those therapies that have been gaining a lot of traction for reducing nerve and muscle pain, improving the appearance and health of hair and skin, and even increasing sexual vitality.

Stem cells are considered unspecialized, meaning they have the potential to develop into various kinds of cells. They also have two other major superpowers: stem cells can self renew and can also sense and send healing signals to damaged cells and tissues.

We can use our own stem cells from fat and bone marrow to treat other areas of the body that need a little help, or we can use something called exosomes from other people, which are essentially the active component of stem cells without the DNA.

As we age, our stem cells are less robust, which is why emerging stem cell therapies hold so much promise in supporting a stronger, longer life. For example, wounds heal slower as we age because of declining stem cell activity. But with stem cell therapy, we can see an improvement in the components of healthy skin that lead to healing, like increased collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.

When used for pain, stem cell therapy can be used to decrease inflammatory cells, increase antiinflammatory cells, and promote healing in musculoskeletal tissue.

After hearing all the exciting possibilities of stem cell therapy, I knew I had to try it for my own back problems.

So this week on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I share a conversation with the doctors I trusted to do my own stem cell makeover.

Dr. Harry Adelson, Dr. Amy Killen, and Dr. Mitchell Duckworth from Docere Clinics have collectively treated thousands of patients with stem cells, for everything from ruptured disks and bad knees to thinning hair and sexual dysfunction.

If you’re curious about the future of medicine (and you should be!) make sure you listen in to this week’s episode on the power of stem cells.

Wishing you health and happiness,
